Situated just three miles northeast of downtown Norfolk, Virginia, Norfolk International Airport (ORF) carries a history shaped as much by war as by commerce. What began in 1938 as a converted city golf course — Truxton Manor — became Norfolk Municipal Airport , complete with a modest 3,500-foot runway and a repurposed clubhouse for a terminal. When the United States entered World War II, the Army Air Corps took control of the field, extending the main runway and adding two more to handle the surge in military traffic.  With Naval Station Norfolk — the world's largest naval base — just miles away, ORF has always lived in the shadow of the sea and the sky.

In 1974, the airport dedicated a new state-of-the-art terminal, and by 1976 it was officially renamed Norfolk International Airport with the addition of federal customs facilities.  The FAA Norfolk Air Traffic Control Tower was built in 1995, standing 134 feet tall, and today handles approximately 1,100 aircraft per day — every day of the year. Norfolk International now serves nearly 5 million passengers annually and ranks in the top 14% of U.S. airports by passenger volume  — the gateway to Hampton Roads, the Outer Banks, and one of America's most storied military coastlines.

This detailed model captures the tower's clean, modern design — a perfect centerpiece for any Hampton Roads, military aviation, or East Coast airport display.

  • Faithful recreation of the Norfolk International (ORF) control tower
  • Realistic detailing of the tower shaft and cab
  • Ideal for military aviation, Virginia, or East Coast airport layouts
